Empowering Parents and Children

SSD’s Family and Community Resource Center Administrators

Special School District ensures that all Rockwood students receive equal access to quality special education. In Rockwood, we have a strong partnership with SSD as we work together to champion inclusion, awareness and family engagement.

This engagement includes the Family and Community Resource Center (FCRC), a clearinghouse of information that extends beyond the walls of SSD to all families in the St. Louis community.

According to Michelle Levi Perez, administrator of Parent Education and Diversity Awareness, the Center is the largest library of materials related to disability in the state. "We work with a student's building-level team and parents to provide the resources, training and support needed to assist them in obtaining the best possible educational outcome for their child."

Parents can check-out books, videos, and family resources on a wide variety of topics, including autism, bullying, homework, disabilities, stress, and much more. "As parents and grandparents of children with special needs, we feel a connection to families who are looking for answers," noted Levi Perez. "We are a caring, compassionate team looking to help those who need information to empower their children during their educational journey."

The FCRC continues to grow. "Our outreach to Rockwood families grows each year, and we are looking to technology to support this trend by increasing our online offerings and materials," said Levi Perez.
